During the school year, she lives in an apartment-style building off-campus in Tenleytown; over the summer, she lives at home in Potomac, Maryland. Ishika wants to pursue a career in Education because there have been teachers in the past who have encouraged and inspired her to be one, and she loves children. Ishika has been a junior counselor, camp counselor, intern at a school, and teacher’s assistant. She was a teacher’s assistant for underprivileged kids at a summer camp for two years. She was also a teacher’s assistant at her temple for four years, where she helped the students learn Punjabi; while also helping the teachers grade papers/tests, answer questions the students had, help students if they needed anything, and respond to questions any parent had about their child or the homework and any upcoming quizzes. Throughout the years at American University, Ishika has taken multiple education courses that have helped her create lesson plans, teach using various techniques and strategies, have field experience, and learn the different ways to communicate with students and accommodate them. Through this internship with Kaur Foundation, Ishika is excited about using the skills she has learned about teaching and Education to find new ways to advance Education in new places, mainly religious places. Ishika’s passion is teaching students in different ways, accommodating them, and ensuring they have fun in the classroom while learning. This summer, she is excited about this internship, spending time with family and friends, and doing what she loves: dancing, baking, listening to music, and art.
